2012 Jordan Brand Classic International Game

2012 will mark the sixth year that the Jordan Brand Classic will feature an International tour as part of the event. These players are hand picked from all corners of the world. The last four years saw the top 15- and 16-year old basketball players from around the globe battling in front of thousands of fans at Madison Square Garden in New York City and most recently at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. The initial international game saw a talented group of overseas players battle a select group of New York City All-Stars.

The 2011 NBA Draft was a monumental year for the Jordan Brand Classic International Game as three former players were selected in the first round. Enes Kanter (Turkey) went No. 3 to the Utah Jazz, Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania) was picked No. 5 by the Toronto Raptors and the Houston Rockets selected Nikola Mirotic (Spain) with the No. 23 pick.

Each year in order to select the international participants; Jordan Brand invites 40 of the top prospects in Europe for a fierce three-day training camp with some of the top basketball-training experts from the U.S. Basketball training experts Christopher Thomas & Ganon Baker held strength & conditioning and skills development sessions each day along with 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 competitions led by Kyle Manary. The prospects compete for one of the 10 coveted Most Valuable Player awards and an opportunity to come to the U.S. and compete in the Jordan Brand Classic. The European players are joined by six players from other regions of the world to complete the International game rosters.

Over the past five years Jordan Brand’s elite training camps have been held in Athens, Greece, Istanbul, London, Turkey, Rome, Italy, and Vilnius, Lithuania.

In the past four years over 20 countries have been represented in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game including: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Nigeria, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
